Port Macquarie Hastings residents are asked to wear a white shirt, go for a walk in their local neighbourhood and share a selfie using the hashtag #WalkInWhite.
Liberty CEO Kelly Lamb said domestic and family violence in our community has been increasing year on year, and COVID-19 has further increased incidents and complexity of violence locally.
“By wearing white and sharing a photo on Facebook on Sunday 29 November, you’re making an important statement to your friends, family and followers that you say no to domestic and family violence,” Mrs Lamb said.
“It means a great deal to women and children who have experienced domestic violence to see their community standing up in support, and it also provides a strong message that there is never an excuse for abuse or violence, be it physical, psychological or financial.
“This annual event has always been well supported by our local community, so we wanted to make sure everyone could still be involved in a COVID-safe way by bringing people together on Facebook.
“We’ve also had people ask us how they can make a contribution to the cause, so we’ve set up an online fundraising page at walkinwhite.raisely.com.
“All funds raised will stay within our community and support local families through specialist outreach services, group work programs, renovations to our crisis accommodation, and taking our services out to regional and remote areas.
“We hope to be able to host the walk along the beautiful Coastal Walk from Lighthouse to Westport Park once again in 2021.”
